The human body is susceptible to various health issues and challenges due to changes in atmospheric conditions particularly changes in air pressure or density. These issues can become severe enough to put one’s life at risk.
Relocating to higher altitude places such as Ladakh poses several health risks, primarily due to the reduced air pressure or density at higher altitudes, typically above 10,000 feet.
Ladakh is seated at an elevation of 8,370 ft to 25,400ft. This astounding elevation makes Ladakh’s climatic conditions quite risky for visitors from the plain regions or from places of lower elevation. When visitors from lower regions ascend to higher altitudes like Ladakh, they may experience dizziness, nausea, breathing difficulties, fatigue, and other related symptoms.
Well, this doesn’t mean that every individual will face or undergo same challenges. The reduced air pressure can cause difficulties based on several factors. Or, even visitors who might assume themselves to be physically fit, might start facing breathing difficulties or other health issues while in Ladakh. Hence, everyone planning for a Leh Ladakh itinerary for 6 days need to be extremely careful.
Therefore, it is essential to acclimate your body before booking any Leh Ladakh packages for 6 days. The most effective way to acclimate to higher altitudes is to complete the journey in stages rather than all at once. By doing so, you will have enough time to adjust to specific altitudes gradually. This way, you can eventually reach the desired altitude without suffering from the effects of sudden altitude gain.
Hence, it is recommended that visitors spend the first day of their Leh Ladakh packages for 6 days within the comfort of their hotel rooms to acclimate to the atmosphere. Once adjusted, they can begin exploring the area. However, they should avoid taking long walks or tiring journeys on the first day itself. Additionally, visitors should ensure that their Leh Ladakh itinerary for 6 days does not take them directly to higher altitudes but gradually from lower to higher altitudes. This way, they can easily get acclimatized to even the harshest atmospheric conditions in the Leh Ladakh region.
As previously mentioned, oxygen levels decrease as altitude increases, leading to breathing difficulties and other health effects. When planning to book Leh Ladakh packages for 6 days, it is crucial to be extra cautious about altitude sickness and educate yourself about it.
This is the most commonly seen or reported type of altitude sickness that can affect all visitors. It is characterized by mild to severe headache, dizziness that can worsen over time, muscle pain, and nausea.
This is quite a severe type of altitude sickness you may face while enjoying your Leh Ladakh packages for 6 days. Under this condition or sickness, fluids might start getting accumulated in your lungs. You may start finding it difficult to inhale or exhale once fluids start getting accumulated in your lungs. However, the good news is that there is only a fragment of chance of HAPE as a Leh Ladakh itinerary for 6 days won’t take you to such higher altitudes.
HACE is one step ahead of HAPE. Under this altitude sickness, fluid starts getting accumulated directly in the brain. Anyone getting prone to HACE might start facing various nervous as well as mental issues as the functioning of nerves get highly disturbed under HACE. God forbid, if this happens, one would require immediate and advanced medical care and treatments.
If not taken proper care, these symptoms can grow further causing HAPE or HACE. This can cause severe health and mental issues like:
To avoid all these types of altitude sickness or getting prone to them, you must get acclimatized to Ladakh’s weather and other climatic conditions. While searching for a Leh Ladakh itinerary for 6 days, you must double check whether you would be getting ample of time to get acclimatized to the local conditions or not!
