Ladakh weather in August has its own perks! While some consider it not a too good period to plan a trip to Ladakh, others may consider it as an ideal month to plan their trip. And the reason? Well, August is the month that is usually the peak of monsoon season in Ladakh.
Keeping this in mind, some of the travellers does not consider Ladakh weather in August as favourable. On the other hand, if you ask any adventure seekers or backpackers in general, they may come up with an entirely different set of reasons to plan a Ladakh trip in August.

In simple words, Ladakh weather in August is all sunny and bright. This means, you may not have to worry about low temperatures; not during the daytime at least. Days usually begins bright, and continues till late afternoon. Temperature during this time could range somewhere between 20 to 30 degrees, which is considered as an extremely pleasant temperature range in such region.
Come evening, temperature starts dropping slowly, and with the downfall of night, it can reach the lowest range. Though temperature falls during the night, it almost remains constant between 8 to 10 degrees. But then, considering you are not a native of Ladakh, the low temperature during the night could be challenging for you. It is always advisable not to step out during the nights, or stay inside your hotel room right from the evenings.

Monsoon showers are yet another important factors to keep in mind while talking about Ladakh weather in August. This is the month when the region receives quite a good amount of rainfall. And as result of this, the rivers and water crossing could grow extremely ferocious at times. Whether you decide to take either the Manali-Leh Highway or the Srinagar-Leh Highway, you would surely come across extreme water crossings in the month of August.
However, there is one good news – these challenges may not extend till you reach Ladakh! Yes, if you are travelling via Manali-Leh Highway, you will notice that the areas beyond Baralacha La Pass are rain shadow mostly rain shadow regions. This means, these areas do not receive much of monsoon showers, and thus, they do not get much affected. In other words, you may not come across much of water crossings in these areas.
In case, you are planning your trip via Srinagar-Leh Highway, you can expect the same beyond Zoji La Pass on your way to Leh. Thus, you can expect a quite a smooth journey after crossing Zoji La Pass.
Cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods are another important factor to note about Ladakh weather in August. Since last couple of years, there has been reports of regular landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods in Ladakh. Call it the side effects of global warming, and you won’t be wrong. Hence, you need to be a bit careful while driving or riding to Ladakh region in August.
However, keeping all these challenges aside, once you reach the main valley, you can sit back and relax as August brings in a pleasant vibe across Leh-Ladakh region.
