Gulmarg Shivers as Temperature Plummets to -8°C, Marking Coldest Night on Record
Amid dry and cold weather in Kashmir, Gulmarg registered the season’s coldest night at -8 degrees Celsius on Monday against the normal -0.6 degrees Celsius, which is 7.4 degrees Celsius below normal for the valley of meadows in north Kashmir.
The recent snowfall has made Gulmarg a winter wonderland. The white blanket of snow is now an ideal place for tourists who look forward to enjoying the cold weather with some delicious warm food. With the fresh spell of snow, the tourists are having a great time at the skiing location.
Pahalgam, one of the main base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra also witnessed a significant drop in the temperature. The temperature here dropped to -5.8 degrees Celsius, against the normal -3.3 degrees Celsius and it was 2.5 degrees Celsius below normal for the Valley of Shepherds. The capital city Srinagar also saw a dip in the temperature with temperature dipping to a minimum of 0.5 degrees Celsius.
Other areas of the region also reported varying temperatures that included 0.8 degrees Celsius in Qazigund, 1.1 degrees Celsius in Kokernag, and -2.2 degrees Celsius in Kupwara. The weather forecast anticipates dry weather in the valley for the upcoming days.
