Gurez Valley in Kashmir Anticipates a Tourism Boom as Its Unspoiled Beauty Captivates Travel Enthusiasts
Gurez Valley has become the centre point of tourism in Kashmir. It has surpassed its own records and contributing to the overall surge in the tourist numbers of the valley. As per the reports, Kashmir witnessed the highest number of tourists since the time of independence. The visitors in 2023 ranged between 1.62 crore to 1.88 crore. As the calendar turns to 2024, Gurez Valley is looking to set new milestones.
Even though the contribution of Gurez Valley to overall tourism may be low in comparison to other destinations, the numbers are rising steadily. As per 2022 estimates, the tourist count was placed at 50,000 but by 2023 July, one lakh tourists had explored the region. These figures might look modest but looking at the Gurez’s native population which stood at 37,992 as per the 2011 Census, these tourist numbers are very significant.
The surge in tourism is due to the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. It has led to commercial as well as cultural transformation of the region. The move has opened new avenues for regions like Gurez, giving way to more opportunities and increased visibility.
Gurez locals are very excited looking at the tourism boom in the region. The region now continues to draw attention of the tourists for its unexplored beauty and cultural richness. The region is all set for further cultural and commercial reshaping underlining the significant impact of tourism in era post section 370.
